The EMBRS Method in 6 Steps:

Step 0: Interleaving.

Before the lesson starts, students work on spiralled review questions that are strategically placed throughout the curriculum. This ensures the learning that happens in September stays with students long-term.

Step 1: Goal setting is at the start of every lesson, so students know exactly what they’ll be learning.

Step 2: We review vocabulary so students talk like mathematicians. Because they are mathematicians.

Step 3: Our lessons kick off with something interesting: a situation, a challenge, a scenario. Everyone is paying attention. Often the hooks involve manipulatives and culturally diverse math stories.

Step 4: 🔁 Instructional Loops are the basis of EMBRS. During Instructional Loops, the teacher leads the lesson and students actively demonstrate their learning on whiteboards.

A structured 📖TEACH-💬TALK-✏️TRY Loop has three components:

1) 📖 TEACH: Step-by-Step Explicit Teaching

2) 💬 TALK: Guided discussions to check for understanding, involving examples/non-examples and spot the error exercises.

3) ✏️ TRY: Using whiteboards, students work on scaffolded questions to experience success and build on it incrementally. It’s not technically “practice”, since students are still in the acquisition phase of learning during the Instructional Loops.

Step 5: We’re talking about practice. With the right amount and right type of practice, students can consolidate their learning and move from the acquisition phase to the fluency-building phase.

Students consolidate their learning using paper and pencil to answer 12 questions. The 12 questions follow the scaffolded sequence of the lesson, allowing for teachers to be precise with feedback when helping students.

The answers are embedded on the Powerpoint, so taking them up is a breeze. 🍃

Step 6: Students have learning gaps for a variety of reasons. Math curriculum that only supports students at grade level leaves out a large portion of students. That’s why we have ON-RAMPS.

EMBRS includes two foundational Instructional Loops per lesson called ON-RAMPS.

Teachers can use ON-RAMPS at the beginning of a lesson for the entire class, or save them for small group instruction after the lesson.

And for students who need acceleration? EMBRS includes ACCELERATORS, which are self-guided accelerated post-practice activities for students who are ready for enriched learning opportunities.

Unlike traditional math programs, our research-based curriculum is built on direct instruction, interleaving, and the CRA (Concrete-Representational-Abstract) approach. These methods ensure deeper conceptual understanding, long-term retention, and improved problem-solving skills for students.

While we have no affilliation with UFLI or the University of Florida, some observers have compared EMBRS to UFLI for a few reasons.

In many ways, EMBRS mirrors the structured literacy approach of many phonics-based reading programs and interventions.

Our curriculum is fully aligned with Common Core and state-specific standards, ensuring students meet or exceed grade-level expectations. Every lesson is designed to build fluency, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving skills required for high-stakes assessments. When a teacher enters the EMBRS portal, they simply select their state to be directed to state-specific lessons.

AMIS, our AI-driven grading assistant provides instant feedback and automated scoring, reducing grading time while giving teachers real-time student performance insights. This allows for quick intervention, differentiated instruction, and data-driven teaching decisions. Students fill out their assessment pages with pencil and paper. This page gets submitted to our portal and auto-marked by AMIS, to allow teachers to focus on responding to learners rather than spending their evenings marking checkmarks and X’s.

Yes! EMBRS Math is a Tier 1 program designed for all learners, including those needing math intervention or remediation. Our structured approach, and scaffolded supports help struggling students close learning gaps while allowing advanced learners to accelerate their progress. Each lesson has an On-Ramp to support learners who require prior knowledge, and each lesson has an Accelerator for students who are ready for a new challenge. Additionally, teachers get access to lessons from all grades. MTSS and SPED co-ordinators will immediately recognize EMBRS as an excellent resource to support all students.

Instead of rote memorization, our approach fosters deep mathematical thinking.
